This week we’re pleased to welcome Carola Schmid, Involuntary Treatment Supervisor with Snohomish County Human Services.


The Involuntary Treatment Program evaluates individuals who are suffering from an acute mental health or substance use disorder and are alleged to pose a danger to themselves, others, property, or who are gravely disabled, for involuntary psychiatric treatment or secure detox treatment.

Carola and her colleagues in Involuntary Treatment Administration:

  • Evaluate individuals who may require emergency psychiatric or secure detox hospitalization
  • Arrange admissions to the evaluation & treatment and secure detox facilities
  • Seek and rule out less restrictive alternatives to hospitalizations
  • Provide court liaison work for individuals detained in Snohomish Count

About our speaker:

Carola has more than 25 years of varied experience in behavioral health crisis services. She is an experienced mental health professional who is a recognized expert in crisis intervention and stabilization, clinical assessments including risk assessments, legal criteria and applications regarding civil commitment as well as utilizing available mental health and chemical dependency resources throughout Snohomish County and the North Sound Region.Carola collaborates with mental health agencies, law enforcement, emergency room staff, psychiatrists, and other professionals in the community. She also has extensive court experience including testifying in civil commitment hearings as a line staff Designated Mental Health Professional to closely working with the Deputy Persecuting Attorney in the capacity of the Involuntary Treatment Supervisor as well as interfacing and collaborating with Public Defense.
