House Projects

House framingThe Rotary Club of Lynnwood has coordinated and provided financial support for the Rotary House Project for 38 years. The project is a joint venture between Rotary and the Edmonds School District’s Carpentry Program. The purpose is to introduce real world construction experiences into local high school vocational training by way of annual house construction project. It is estimated that over 4,000 students have benefit from this collaboration. The Rotary Club raised funds to purchase building lots and finance construction. The sale proceeds of one house would provide money for the next one. Each house was built and sold within the year so the next could be started. Over time, construction funds accumulated to finance ever increasing land, material and labor costs. Some houses were sold at prices above cost and some were not. Development and construction is a risky business, but at the end of the day, the value of the project could be measured in the education students received at the job site.
